The Who's Life House Page 8 - Mary's Dream in Grid Sleep

In this scene, main character Mary dreams of being a prisoner in a medieval town based on the paintings of Flemish master Heironymus Bosch. The scene is based on one from the second draft of Life House, written in 1975, but ascribed to the character of Mary who is a main fixture of the '71 draft. This story was an attempt to consolidate the various versions of Life House created by Pete Townshend over fifty years into one perfect version of the story.

The magpie in the first panel is part of a "magpie code" I laced through my draft of the story - this scene features just one, for sorrow.

A lot of work went into this piece, in terms of time, research and painstaking craftsmanship and attention to detail (see: various globs of white-out for proof).

Drawn at 16" x 16" on A3 paper.
